The ACT Test
The ACT Test is the most widely used college admissions examination. It consists of four subject area tests:

Science
with an optional Writing component
Every February, the state of North Carolina sponsors a free during-school ACT test date for all high school juniors. Details will be sent to the families of these students ahead of time.
The ACT Test typically costs $46 without/$62.50 with Writing. Fee waivers are available for families who qualify.
The SAT Test
The SAT Test for college admissions consists of three tests:

Writing and Language
-
Math
with optional Essay section
The SAT suite of tests, including the PSAT and PSAT-NMSQT, can be used to track a student's growth over time as their education progresses. The SAT Test for college admissions is the final level of this suite.
The SAT Test typically costs $47.50 without/$64.50 with Essay. Fee waivers are available for families who qualify.
Fee waivers cover 100% of the basic registration fee for those who qualify. Students who qualify for ACT and SAT fee waivers are usually also eligible for up to four college application fee waivers.
